Pokémon Card Game Tropical Mega Battle

The Tropical Mega Battle was the first international exchange tournament in the history of the Pokémon TCG. It was held at a hotel in Hawaii, and was attended by elementary school students from Japan and the United States. In the courtyard where the participants gathered, the players who couldn't wait for the start of the tournament voluntarily started trading and battle. "I was surprised and happy that Pokémon cards could overcome the language barrier." (Kouichi Ooyama). "I wanted to have a Pokémon card tournament!! I want it to be serious, and I want to be able to hold a world tournament in the future. It was this event that realized that dream." (Tsunekazu Ishihara) (August 24–27, 1999) (August 26–27, 2000)
