Oh, and anyone who thinks that Max will honestly go back for Ralts (lol) needs to be smacked.Besides, the whole focus of Max coming back and Ralts reiterating the promise was a lot more involved than the so-called "we'll be back soon Pidgeot" Ash promise. They're very different things.
*wonders how long it will take for fanfiction writers who see this episode to make some kind of inter-species romance story involving older Max and one of Ralt's evolutions*:loopy:

Anyway, it was a gorgeous episode, Max's reactions to responsibility and his breaking down several times were so incredibly realistic considering his age and lack of experience. If only all Pokemon episodes could be this good.
The animation made it all the better, enhanced even further by the new look for Pin Missile (much better to have them act like real missiles rather than just a bunch of pins firing). The battle being so even was also very welcome as it was much more entertaining to watch, especially the scene where all the attacks and Pokemon are colliding with each other in succession.
For characters that appeared so little in the episode, the Gardevoir and Kirlia were quite well-defined. The Kirlia's fiery temper was quite clear. The scene with it attacking Max and Ralts shielding him was very well done. Even then it still seemed to want to attack Max, but the wiser Gardevoir held it back, teenagers can be so impulsive.:ksmile:
And of course Meowth finally being scanned by the pokedex is icing on the cake, Ash was quite smart in his actions and advice in this episode. And Snorunt shined. The leaf effects added considerably to the emotion when Max was saying goodbye.
I think this might also be the only time we see Brock's Ludicolo in a semi-normal battle.
