Why have trains that are alive for no reason whatsoever, when there are plenty of legends about phantom trains and ghost ships?

Actually, I'd like to find a third kind of haunted vehicle, so we could have a trio - steel/ghost phantom train, water/ghost ghost ship, and one other to complete the trio.
