I have been pondering about this for some time and one has to ask himself if this movie will be one time thing? Or there might be more than one, kinda similar to how Digimon did with its project Digimon Tri Adventure for anniversary?
Having them at least one more movie taking place as follow up after Ash starting steps as trainer covering thus pokemon roots and original era of this show?

If not, i have to say how whole idea of writers and directors deciding to do retelling of Kanto and what already happened leaves abit of bitter taste in mouth for me. Especially when taking look at other anime and franchises in what they did in rewarding viewers for their loyalty and celebrating milestone. As it could be seen through "Digimon Tri Adventure!", "Dragonball Super!", "Yugioh Dark Side of Dimensions!", etc.

Because this shows returned to their roots by focusing on original main cast. But striking difference was in putting effort, time and creativity in depicting completely new, fresh stories acting as follow up on where anime left its characters at end of their on screen adventures. Delivering sequels of already established, developed, with strong established bonds existing between characters storyline getting viewers to familiarize in how much their lives changed, how far they came in reaching their objectives and dreams being gathered to participate in new adventure and plot.

Whereas with Pokemon from looks of it we will be getting somewhat of rerun of what was already showed in Kanto, minus few differences with Ho-Oh hopefully finally being properly covered, better animation and perhaps more efficient use of Ash. If were lucky Misty and Brock as characters.

Now don't get me wrong, im still excited and appreciate this move wandering what will come out of it. However it feels like for something as 20th anniversary producers could do so much more than what we may be getting instead. In my opinion for such a big milestone as this one this anime story, its older classic characters which helped define direction in which pokemon will go, but most importantly fanbase should and hopefully will receive more than just simple, maybe more exotic repeat..
