When I was a kid, I was extremely serious, and I had anger-management problems. All that dissapeared when I realized I had nothing to lose if I started random conversations with kids of my age. I don't know if this could help but, try talking to random people about something you wanna talk about, in the supermarket, wating in line or at college, any place is perfect. Just be yourself, you may make new friends and posible dates in the future :B
