Introduced in Generation III

The Choice Band (Japanese: こだわりハチマキ Fixation Headband) is a type of held item introduced in Generation III. It boosts the holder's Attack, but locks it into only using one move. It has two counterparts that boost different stats: Choice Scarf and Choice Specs.

In the core series games

Price

Effect

When held by a Pokémon, it boosts the Pokémon's Attack by 50%, but only allows the use of the first move selected. This effect resets when the holder is withdrawn.

Generation III

The Choice Band's Attack boost also applies to confusion damage.

Generation IV

In Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, due to a glitch, if a Pokémon uses U-turn and switches into a Pokémon holding a Choice Band that also knows U-turn, that Pokémon will be locked into U-turn. This was fixed in subsequent games.

Generation V to VI

From Generation V onward, if a Pokémon is already locked into a move due to a held Choice Band, if the held Choice Band is removed while its effect is negated, the Pokémon will be affected by the Choice item lock glitch.

The Choice Band no longer boosts confusion damage.

Generation VII

If a Pokémon holding a Choice Band uses a move other than the one it's locked into (such as through Instruct or Dancer), the move will fail and no PP will be deducted.

Generation VIII

If a Pokémon holding a Choice Band Dynamaxes, the item will temporarily have no effect; the stat boost will be disabled, and the Pokémon will no longer be subject to move locks. After the Dynamax ends, the stat boost is restored, and any previous move lock will be re-enabled.

Emerald arc

Emerald rented a Linoone holding a Choice Band from the Battle Factory in Pinsir Me, I Must Be Dreaming. It was used to strengthen its Frustration in some of its matches. This item later proved to be instrumental in taking down Noland's Mawile, when Linoone used Trick to switch items with Mawile.

Black 2 & White 2 arc

In Deduction Time, Hugh had his Pidove use Bestow to pass a Choice Band on to a Team Plasma Grunt's Klang, locking it into using Protect and thus preventing it from attacking.

Choice Band Main article: Choice Band (Guardians Rising 121)

The Choice Band was introduced as a Pokémon Tool Trainer card in the Pokémon Trading Card Game during the English Sun & Moon Series (the Japanese Sun & Moon Era) in the Guardians Rising expansion. It was later reprinted as a Full Art Secret card in the English Burning Shadows expansion (the Japanese Facing a New Trial subset).

The Choice Band strengthens attacks of the Pokémon the card is attached to by 30 if the opponent's Active Pokémon is a Pokémon-GX or Pokémon-EX (before applying Weakness and Resistance).
